As rescues, most often when we encounter an abandoned/abused dog we are able to somewhat piece together what their life might have been from the physical evidence we see. Such is not the case with Chicklet.
Beside the unimaginable of being burned by acid, it appears he was used as bait or attacked before being found by someone that dropped him off in a cardboard box at one of our vets. We were called immediately as he was being checked over by the doctors. Despite the sickening state we found him in, one doctor in particular felt despite the hell Chicklet had been put through, that he would be able to be brought back with proper nurturing, medication and patience….she was just worried that no person or personswould take
him on…little did she know that we are always up for this challenge.
Beside the above, he was starved, dehydrated, disoriented and working a case of mange. As he is healing, the bite marks and other mysterious wounds will all be treated and addressed. After about five days in our care, with accelerated amounts of nutrition and medication, his bleeding stopped, he got up, walked around and went back to the new safe spot that is his bed.
It has been a while since we had this extreme of a ‘day at a time’ case….but every day is offering promise.
Every dog deserves humane treatment and yes puppies and cute dogs are easier from a rescue point of view, but there is something about Chicklet, his spirit that pulled us in. And on another level, we did not want him leaving this planet thinking that there is a dearth of compassion in humans.
Naturally, anything anyone might be able to contribute to his recovery is beyond appreciated.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE !!! Animals have feelings and this is disgusting. What kind of people do we have in this world that can take a poor animal and be so crule. These people need to be stopped ! The laws need to be more stricked, and punishments need to be higher. Forget measley fines. Jack up the amount to thousands of dollars and put them in prison. If they can treat their animals this way what do you think they do to their kids?

The pictures are worth a 1000 words. How do people live with themselves? Animals do not deserve to be treated cruel. I would like to see the same thing happen to these people. I hope the freak from Craigslist who wrote me and cussed me out reads this!
She was so angry that I said (NO Pit Bull Bait) when trying to find a good and responsible home for my moms dog, that she basically wished death to my ill mother and psycho words to me.
This case is exactly why I wrote NO BAIT in a Craigslist ad as Pit Bulls people use free dogs for training. I do find pits extemely loving in the right environment. That doesn’t mean all pit bull owners abuse or fight them. And it certainly doesn’t mean all Pit Owners use FREE dogs & cats for their blood sport.
I wasn’t trying to upset PBl owner, but unfort. some LOSERS in society take free animals offered on Craigslist and other places and use them for this. This pitiful and tragic dog is proof of abuse.
BE CAREFUL PLACING FREE/CHEAP animals……..I hope this poor baby continues to heal both physiclaly & emotionally.

How heartbreaking! I know it’s been said over and over but I can not fathom the type of heartless, cold person that would do this or even allow this to be done in front of them. OMG that poor baby, I read his story and see his pictures and it made me cry, and made me so angry! How can anyone do this to another living creature. I hope they are found and the same done to them. Someone posted info and a link about chicklet on craigslist in Phoenix. I was so disturbed to see these photos and know that there are savage people walking amongst us. We need to change our laws. I would love to recieve updates on chicklet. I also would like info on adopting him. Also what type of residual problems, if any ,he might have. I got alot of love to give. My dog Chico, passed away last sept. He was 16. I had a vet that I took my dogs to regularily when needed. He took care of all our dogs prior to their passing. We had 3 dogs for years. As far as a loving home for chicklet, we would be hard to beat. When I raised my dogs, they were part of my family. They had a doggie door, but lived in the house with my husband and I. We also had a medication routine when Our dogs needed it.
We are really interested in providing Chicklet with a loving home. It would mean so much for us to show him the love each dog deserves.
I would be willing to adopt this boy. I have 3 rescue dogs that I have nursed back to health! Thank You for helping him!
Kudos for looking after the little guy. In response to his wounds… I must bring up that it is possible this little guy was injured in a meth lab. Acid burns, punctures etc..

Thank goodness that there are still good people out there. I take care of foster dogs, but I cant even imagine the heart and emotion that would go into caring for poor little Chicklet! This was a very touching story and this dog is very lucky to at least have such wonderful people taking care of him now. I got an abused dog from a rescue organization and i understand how much treatment it takes to make a dog healthy again, as well as the numerous hours it takes to emotionally re-adjust these types of animals.
It is sick how some people will abuse and abandon these poor creatures.

I hope the person or persons responsible for this will have a spiritual epiphany. Only then will they truly deal with whatever emotional pain & anger they were manifesting when they committed this act.
This person most likely experienced abuse in their own life and has yet to embrace healing. Without this healing, they will to continue the cycle of violence.

Due to the types of injuries..the photos and information you’ve provided,I would have to agree with the other poster who brought up that Chicklets specific injuries look like they may have been inflicted in a Meth Lab. Poosiably being in the room,or near the cooker when there was either an exposion or boil over of product. Regardless…its horriffic and senceless! Wish there was more I could do! Wish I could take Chicklet but I know others are better equiped to handle his recovery. At least someone left him at your door. Sending you all of our good thoughts and prayers.
OH MY GOD ~ I just saw this story on Chicklet. We hear everyday of animals of all kinds being abused. As far as I ~ and I’m sure many others ~ am convinced, the people who do these horrible things to animals should be prosecuted as if they had done this to a human being, a child. Animals are loving, helpless creatures, dependent on humans and, unfortunately, are also helpless victims to any abuse that humans decide to do to them.
When I, my husband and our 2 adopted grandsons ~ 7 & 8 1/2, Brandon & Bailey ~ saw these pictures, we were horrified, could not believe that someone would do this to a helpless, loving dog like Chicklet seems to be. Thank God for people like you who care, help and heal these poor, poor animals. My grandsons want to send money on Friday to help with Chicklet’s recovery. Needless to say, we will do just that ~ and hope it helps, wishing , of course, we could send more. The work you do is amazing and heartwarming ~ we, like so many others, would love to give Chicklet a home ~ we have 2 cats, a rabbit {who happily lives in our home, running around the kitchen at times!}, a painted turtle{small one!} and a betta fish. We take almost an hour feeding them in the morning, talking to them, petting, etc.
I could never imagine hurting the smallest creature, never mind a loving dog who looks at you with those eyes, wanting nothing but love.
I only hope ~ as I know everyone else does ~ that whoever did this to Chicklet was known or found & punished…but no punishment available is enough when you hurt an animal, especially in the terrible way Chicklet was injured, so very horrid. Our prayers are with Chicklet & you who are helping ~ God Bless You All! I would love to know how Chicklet turns out, if he heals well, gets a good home, etc. God be with you all, and hopefully vengeance to the ones who hurt and/or maim animals everyday ~ they are VERY, VERY sick people who deserve NO sympathy whatsoever.

Chicklet is one of the many reasons I use my voice to speak out for those creatures who can’t!!! No living creature deserves this kind of treatment outside of the ones who committed these acts to begin with…an eye for an eye would end a lot of this kind of abuse!!

So many kind words for the Little Chicklet who captured all our hearts. I got an update from The Mutt Scouts re: Chicklet a few days ago and they said he is improving and continuing his long road to recovery. They are getting to see more and more his personality the longer he is with them and sort of letting his guard down. They promise more updates to come, but our money is definitely helping him!

-A native American belief is that when humans die we come to a bridge…..It is important to cross that bridge to set our soul free. (Peace)- Well on the other side of the bridge is every animal great and small that we have come across in our living life. It is up to those animals whether or not we cross the bridge, how we treated these animals is how they deside to treat our soul in the end. So “What comes around goes around” -Yes- in the end on these cruel people it will. And for you?<—-I see many thankful creatures lift and lovingly carry you to the other side of that bridge. I’m sooo sorry to see a dog in this kind of situation. I’m only 11 and i think that all animals need to be treated with care and respect, but that does not happen as demenstrated here.

I can only echo the horror and compassionate responses here.
WHEN CHICKLET RECOVERS enough to be able to feel safe around new people – and he will! – perhaps, and this is just a thought, perhaps he might be a comfort to human survivors of physical abuse, as they recover in hospitals, for instance.
Kids especially will take heart and be encouraged to heal inside and out when he visits.
I have seen something like this with cancer victims and dogs that have three legs, for instance.
I don’t know how such a thing can be arranged, but it would offer great mutual benefit. For the rest of his life, Chicklet would be assured of the love and appreciation he deserves.
